The Residents Association has grown out of the Action Group Keep West Parley Green. This was formed in February 2006 when we first learned of the South West Regional Assembly (SWRA) plans. The proposals of this remote and unelected body (100 miles away at Exeter) were contained in their Regional Spatial Strategy - grandly titled, but mainly about increased housing.
Their proposals were based on a continuous economic growth of 3.2% for 20 years - if only! - and consisted largely of big high density housing estates, many of them in the green belt. West Parley, Corfe Mullen and Wimborne were planned to have a total of 2400 houses in their green belts.

The identity of West Parley, which goes right back through the Domesday Book to the Iron Age, would be swamped. Its semi rural character would be lost. The roads, overloaded now, would be chaos.
We would be to all intents and purposes North Bournemouth.
The top task of the West Parley Residents Association is to do all it can to prevent this happening.
We have also turned our hand to anything that will enhance the appearance, tidiness and general attractiveness of West Parley. We have funded, provided and are maintaining an all year round flower display at Parley Cross. WPRA volunteers now water the flowers, keep the principal roads clear of litter, and help to maintain the pavements and verges. We have responded to residents concerns about individual planning applications. Also, we are about to get started on a Local Plan, sonmething that the District Council is encouraging all towns and villages to do.
